I've been a homeowner for about 13 years, which means I've done tons of fixes/home improvement projects. Until recently, I was using an old HF miter saw that I got from my grandpa when he passed away years and years ago. Just bought a Metabo HPT compound and the left gate is off, so I've been using the right gate (which is annoying being right handed and being used to that being my "chop" hand). Went figure out how to fix it, and am now feeling very dumb that I never even considered that all saws need zero'd in and adjusted / checked periodically. Now I realize why so many of my trim projects have had horrible corners. I thought it was just a part of doing trim.... This video is awesome. I've only used my new miter saw for a couple things, but my next project is doing all the trim in the house (again). I'm also going to be redoing my whole garage, building a miter station, saw table station, new storage systems / shelves, etc. Will be really nice to know my saws are zero'd in before I start building these carts and tables that will be my workstations for hopefully the next 15 years. Great video. Very informative, straight forward, and easy to follow. I love that you give examples and explain how other saws can be adjusted, in case they don't have all the same features as the one you're using. Great job! Now to go watch you table saw adjustment/tune up video!

I am very Confused. you free handed to remove excess metal , but then you used the resulting angle as the template for setting up the jig for final grinding. ???

Jim, that last cover jig, the cross adjustment brace, switch the pivot point so you have full access without having to move your arm over the adjustment arm, I can see a safety point!! Love the jigs and will be making a few of them this week, thanks!!

I built a small building for air drying. After finishing the building, I put some gravel on the ground, then used a long straight board and screeded the gravel both directions, so the floor is flat. Then I built pallets of different lengths to match the length of my logs, I sticker as I take the boards off the mill onto the pallets, to save handling over and over. Then I set the pallets in my shed with the flat floor. Final step is to set a pallet with concrete sidewalk chunks on top of the stack. When I need to add another pallet to the top of the existing one, I just set the pallet of concrete out of the way, add a pallet of lumber to the stack, then put the pallet of concrete back on top, using my skidsteer and forks. I am getting some nice straight boards, unlike the stuff I used to saw.

Amazing stuff. Reminds me so much of my late grandads woodworking show. Table saw WAS in the center of it all, and had numerous jogs on it, so I'd like to think you for the nostalgic reminder of how my grandad worked. Now, I'm looking to make the 90 degree crosscut sled for my table saw, but the link to the "download all jigs for free" does not work. I checked the store, but can't see which of these plans is the one I wanted. Can you reply with the correct link please?

Never miter an inside corner. Why, because my grandfather told me. When I was taught, we used homemade miter boxes and drove all of our nails. The way that he explained it, a mitered inside corner later on when the moister leaves the trim piece, it will shrink and leave a crack big enough to throw a cat through. A coped corner will stay tight. Sorry to criticize your demonstration. For a do-it-yourselfer, mitered corners would be easier. I am seeing fewer carpenters even owning a coping saw. I tell them to take pride in your work.

Great stuff. The cove molding jig could be improved by making the angle adjustment arm in the opposite direction so that you don't have to jump over it in order to make your cut. Obviously the arm needs to be above you saw fence, however the excess of the arm is out of your way.

How much downward pressure should you use? I mean, if a long board is bowed, might a person accidentally flatten it as they feed it thru the jointer, causing the planer (later) to create parallel sides to a bowed board? (I think i just did this on my first ever attempt). Not putting enough pressure, though, does what? So confused*after*i thought I understood but before i made a beautiful, smooth, parallel, *bowed* board (only 16” long, too 😞) - and I'm not sure it was that bowed when I started. Or at least both sides weren't bowed.
